Real Madrid back at number one

Real Madrid beat 10-man Levante 3-0 at the Bernabeu this evening to reclaim top spot from Atletico Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side went three points clear on 67 points following their home win after round 27 of matches in La Liga.

Madrid dominated the first half and took a deserved lead in the 12th minute through Cristiano Ronald. Ronaldo put Real ahead after beating Mohamed Sissoko to the ball to head in an Angel di Maria corner.

Real could have gone at least four-up before the break but Gareth Bale sent his 15th minute shot inches wide while di Maria's effort came off a Levante defender in the 21st minute.

Karim Benzema too had go in the 45th minute but amazingly saw his header come off the post after connecting with a fine cross from Marcelo.

Marcelo then showed Benzema how it should be done making it 2-0 in the 48th minute with a right footed volley from an acute angle following fine one-two with Ronaldo.

Levante were the reduced to ten men in the 64th minute after David Navarro was sent off after a two -footed challenge from behind on Ronaldo.

Marcelo had two chances after the hour mark wasted while Benzema had another header come off the woodwork in what was turning to be an unfortunate night for him in front of goal before leaving the pitch in the 81st minute.

Things got from bad to worse for Levante in the 80th minute when Jese Rodriguez turned the ball into his own net after failing to properly clear a Marcelo cross.

Ronaldo could have made it 4-0 but saw his header come off the woodwork in the 88th minute and two minutes later Bale sent his shot inches wide but the damaged was done and Real were back in the driving seat.
