Cameroon face Portugal on Wednesday evening at the Estadio Municipal Dr. Magalhaes Pessoa in Leiria, in their first warm-up game ahead of the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014. Kick-off will be at 21h45 CAT.
The two nations have only met once previously, in a friendly building up towards the South African World Cup in June 2010. The Portuguese defeated the Indomitable Lions 3-1 on that occasion.
Portugal qualified for Brazil 2014 after defeating Sweden 4-2 on aggregate in a playoff clash, and have lost only one of their last 10 games when they suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Brazil last September.
The Indomitable Lions’ last defeat goes back to October 2012 against Colombia.
It is a Cameroonian squad without major surprises that comes up against Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates, although Stéphane Mbia and Achille Webo have both been ruled out due to injuries.
As for Portugal head coach Paulo Bento, he will be without several of his key players such as Rui Patricio, Bruno Alves, Nani and Helder Postiga.
Nonetheless, it promises to be an exciting encounter between those two great football nations, as explained by Cameroonian Alexandre Song.
“It is going to be a big test between two teams which both feature great players and are certainly well regarded internationally. I do believe that it will be a great game for everybody,” declared the Barcelona midfielder, who insisted that they will not focus only on Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Ronaldo is an incredible player, but we are here to play against a great team which is Portugal, and not to focus only on one player.”
