Striker Nicklas Bendtner is set to make his first competitive appearance for Arsenal in over two years in the Gunners’ League Cup game at West Brom on Wednesday.
Bendtner, who was put on a strict diet and training regime by the club, was an unused substitute during Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Stoke City on Sunday and looks set to feature against the Baggies on Wednesday.
In an email sent to Arsenal fans, Arsene Wenger said that the Dane “has a chance to be involved” and confirmed that Jack Wilshere will play no part at the Hawthorns as the Frenchman looks to rotate the team as normal for the League Cup.
“We have a Capital One Cup game at West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday and I will rotate the team, of course. Nicklas Bendtner has a chance to be involved,” Wenger said.
“Jack Wilshere will not play. Normally I would have rested him on Sunday and I decided to take him off because he was a bit exhausted towards the end.
“Rotating the squad is important because we play again on Saturday and after that we have a massive home game in the Champions League (against Napoli).
“We will need everyone to play their part.”
