Hull City 1 West Ham United 0: match report

Robbie Brady scored his third goal of the season to leave West Hamwithout a victory in the league since the opening day.
Kevin Nolan should have been sent off before the game had even got going when he launched into Liam Rosenior’s right ankle presenting his studs. Referee Kevin Friend was lenient, however, issuing only a yellow card.
If this was a captain’s attempt by Nolan to show that his team was up for it from the off, it did not work. A few minutes later, silly defending from Joey O’Brien presented Hull with an opportunity to score the opener.
A harmless cross by Ahmed Elmohamady went fizzing away for a throw-in but O’Brien decided it was necessary to nudge Brady in the back anyway. The Irishman fell, Friend pointed to the spot and Brady dispatched the kick with a swish of the left boot.
Before this match, West Ham had registered just eight shots on target in five league games so far without scoring away from home. That dubious record scarcely looked like improving.
