The Cameroonian says that the Argentine is responsible for making the Blaugrana less one- dimensional than they once were Alex Song has defended Gerardo Martino , arguing that the under-pressure Barcelona boss should be "congratulated" for adding more variety to the Catalans' game.
The Blaugrana currently sit top of La Liga on goal difference from Atletico Madrid but their Argentine coach's methods have been the subject of much debate, with many believing that the Spanish champions have moved away from their famed, possession-based 'tika taka' football and become too direct.
However, Song says he has been bemused by the criticism that has followed the back-to-back losses to Ajax and Athletic Bilbao at the turn of the month, as he believes Martino is doing a fine job.
"He's a good manager, and things are going well," the versatile midfielder told Barca TV .
"We've lost two games and there has been some criticism, but that's to be expected: this is Barca and people want perfection.
"Martino has done very well so far, and we're on the right path.
We all know that everyone has their own style of playing.
He's said so himself, and he hasn't changed it.
"We now have a wider range of playing styles, but we're continuing in the same general direction, because the staff has helped him to adapt to the way things work here.
"I think we need to congratulate him, because he's just come in and he's doing very well."
Meanwhile, former Arsenal ace Song, who has been linked with a return to England, says that he is loving life in Catalunya, revealing that he was made to feel right at home from day one.
"When I arrived I found myself with great players, who are also great team-mates," the Cameroonian explained.
"When they appear on the TV you can't see it, but they do everything they can to help.
Everyone told me that if I ever needed anything I could count on them.
“Arsenal also play the same as Barca, so it was easy [to settle in]. The only difference is quality.
Arsenal have super players; Barca the best in the
world.
"But we laugh together, like a family. It's morethan a club. Barcelona is truly amazing."
